We will meet with friendship those who come to us with respect and good intentions, but we will not give up even an iota of freedom - Peter Magyar

The Head of the Georgian Government, at the invitation of the Prime Minister of Hungary, Peter Magyar, will attend the events marking the 70th anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution in Budapest. The event will be held today in the central square of the Hungarian capital.

The events in Budapest opened with a traditional procession and lighting of the flame of the revolution. The torchlight procession was led by the Prime Minister of Hungary and members of the government.

The gathering walked from the Technical University of Budapest along the exact route from where the student protest began 70 years ago, which the next day turned into a general uprising against the Soviet regime. The participants held the main symbol of the revolution - the Hungarian flag with the middle cut out, from which the demonstrators had cut out the Soviet coat of arms in 1956.

The Hungarian Prime Minister also addressed the gathering.

"From here we send a clear signal to everyone that whoever comes to us with respect and good intentions will be received in a friendly manner, but we will not give up our freedom even an iota. We have grown up on our own history. We look forward with our heads held high and with unwavering faith in an independent future.

I ask you, you and I ask all Hungarians, to carry this peace, joy of life and strength with us. As long as we have so much strength and love for this country, we have a basis for building. We have a reason to think about the future of Hungary together. Glory to all the heroes of 1956. Long live a free and truly independent Hungary", - said Peter Magyar.

Hungary is marking the 70th anniversary of the 1956 anti-Soviet uprising.
