The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia has responded to the information regarding sending of the request for assistance with fire in Borjomi Gorge to Russia. According to the information released by the Ministry, the Georgian side applied to different states due to the extremely critical situation in the Borjomi Gorge.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a telephone conversation was held between the Prime Minister`s Special Representative and the Foreign Minister of Russia to mobilize Russian equipment.
" The highly critical situation in Borjomi Gorge required operative and effective actions, as well as finding the appropriate equipment. Due to this, the Georgian side made a decision to apply for assistance in the liquidation of fire to other countries . The appeal was made to the UN, as well as the EU, NATO and its partners. Also, the search for all the equipment that could be used was started. Among such countries was the Russian Federation. Consequently, telephone conversations were held between Prime Minister`s Special Representative Abashidze and Mr. Karasin, during which the Russian side expressed readiness to assist with equipment that would make works for elimination of fire more effective. Then, through the Embassy of Switzerland, the Russian side was sent a relevant note, which is part of the formal form and procedure. However, it is no longer on the agenda.
"During the emergency situation, rescue service communication is a practice, and the same statement was made by the Prime Minister`s Special Representative and then by the Russian Spokesperson," - the statement reads.
