Non-parliamentary opposition calls on president to veto new constitution

The proposal of the parliamentary majority is unacceptable for non-parliamentary opposition. Leaders of opposition parties call on the President of Georgia to use veto on a new constitutional law.

"We will definitely attend the meeting with the President, Our position is that we should discuss in united format. We have had discussions with the President and we have some issues, so we think that we should discuss, whether and how yje veto will be used, "- Paata Davitaia, the chairman of the" European Democrats of Georgia "said.

The parties claim that the Constitution should be based on a broader consensus, so the opposition`s participation in consultations is considered necessary. If the ruling team does not make a real compromise, politicians will discuss the prospect of large-scale rallies.
The ruling party offers the presidential administration a face to face dialogue on the constitutional issues without opposition.

The parliamentary majority intends to abolish the bonus system on the undistributed mandates and maintain the election blocs for the 2020 parliamentary elections. Irakli Kobakhidze asks the president to present these two issues as motivated remarks.
