The EU and NATO should not refrain from enlargement despite internal difficulties, - the statement was made by Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia at the 97th Rose-Roth seminar of NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
According to Irakli Kobakhidze, considering existing geopolitical situation, suspension or termination of open door policy will result in the creation of zones and dividing lines on the European continent.
"Despite internal difficulties the EU and the NATO should not refrain from expanding. A cooperation of the EU and the NATO with non-member countries is an issue of crucial importance in order to help them strengthen their independence, sovereignty, economic advancement, defence capabilities and flexibility, "said Irakli Kobakhidze.
According to the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, Georgia fulfils the agenda of ambitious reforms in order to meet NATO membership criteria.
According to Irakli Kobakhidze, the implemented constitutional reform created a comprehensive framework for long-term democratic and stable development.
