Punishment for illegal actions carried out by political officials becomes stricter. The amendments to the Criminal Code will be discussed at the session , which started several minutes ago.

The opposition is not present at today"s sitting, but their position is already known. They do not support these changes.

According to the opposition members, despite the changes, there is no political will in the government to enforce this legislation.

According to Eka Beselia, the Chairman of the Legal Issues Committee, these amendments will be a political message for any official.

Gedevan Popkhadze, a member of the faction Georgian Dream, said that crimes committed by the officials should have be a special political significance.

The so-called Girgvliani amendments envisage tightening sanctions for state officials, who commit crime.
