"The US considers recognition of these two regions as independent republics as a violation of Georgia"s territorial integrity and sovereignty," said Elizabeth Rudd, Deputy Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States to Georgia regarding recognition of independence of the occupied territories of Georgia by Syria.

Elizabeth Rudd calls on the states that recognize as independent republics the occupied South Ossetia and Abkhazia to annule the recognition.

Elizabeth Rudd also claims that the US will respond to this decision.

"The US calls on Syria, Russia, Nicaragua, Venezuela and Nauru to abolish the recognition of the so-called Independent Republics. I would like to point out that the US will definitely respond to those countries that will make such a decision, "said Elizabeth Rudd.

According to the de facto South Ossetian Foreign Ministry and the Administration of the so-called Abkhazian President, Syria recognized the independence South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
