Another unlawful decision taken by the Assad regime in violation of international law - this statement was made by Georgia"s Permanent Representative to the UN Conference at the press conference dedicated to recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. According to Kakha Imnadze, the illegal decision on recognition of Georgia"s territories occupied by Russiawas taken by the Assad regime on Russia"s instruction - thus Syria supported Russian military aggression against Georgia and ethnic cleansing in the occupied regions.

"Assad"s regime, in violation of international law and took another illegal decision an recognized independence of the occupied territories of Georgia. Abkhazia and South Ossetia regions are currently occupied by the Russian military and the recognition of the Assad regime was planned by Russian patrons. By this action, the Syrian regime supports the Russian military aggression against Georgia,illegal occupation of Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region and ethnic cleansing going on for years here. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia calls on the international community to assess the Assad regime"s illegal decision and take the appropriate steps, "- said Kakha Imnadze.
