The EU responds to recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia by Syria and expresses its support for the internationally recognized territorial integrity of Georgia.

"The decision of the Syrian regime on the establishment of diplomatic relations with Abkhazia and South Ossetia is violating international law and the principle of territorial integrity defined by the United Nations Charter, as well as relevant UN Security Council resolutions," the statement reads.

"The European Union fully supports Georgia"s sovereignty and territorial integrity and we are supporters of the efforts to resolve the conflict," the statement on the official website of the organization reads.
