Assessments were made regarding the resignation of Giorgi Kvirikashvili in Washington. Former US Ambassador to Georgia Kenneth Yalovets said that democracy can not go forward when the members of the entire government are resigning because of one man`s dissatisfaction.
According to the former diplomat, unexpected changes are unlikely to be linked to strategic partners, as the new team will need time to build business relations with American colleagues.
"I do not like to comment on internal politics, but I would like to mainly talk about the process of democratization in Georgia, which I think is very disappointing in this context. The resignation of the government in the parliamentary system is linked to the loss of confidence of the Parliament towards the Government and not when an outsider says he no longer trusts the government. The concern which I have and about which I have written many times in the past, is about the Messiah.
I am concerned that one person determines whether the government should remain. I understand that Kvirikshvili"s government was under pressure to demonstrate that economic growth was not as good as people wanted, "- says former US Ambassador to Georgia Kenneth Yalowitz.
The deputy head of "Open Russia" is also making assessments. Vladimir Kara-Murza believes that civil society in Georgia is strong and are people struggling to defend their rights.
Paul Crego, an expert on Georgia"s issues says that the resignation of the Prime Minister and the Government was a surprise. He challenges the experience of the candidate for thepost of the PM and asks the question of whether he will be independent from Bidzina Ivanishvili.
Giorgi Kvirikashvili was in Washington in May. He met with Mike Pompeo and Vice President Mike Pence.
