The US Embassy in Georgia has released another statement regarding the 10th anniversary of the war in Georgia.
"Ten years ago next week, #Russia invaded #Georgia. Russian forces dug in on sovereign Georgian territory and allowed “irregular” militias to rampage through the lands they had seized.
As a result, tens of thousands of ethnic Georgians fled Georgia’s South Ossetia region to Tbilisi and other Georgian towns. Ten years later, many remain exiles in their own homeland.
While their plight continues to this day, negotiators at the Geneva International Discussions are unable to even discuss a solution.
Why?
Because of Russia’s walk-out from the Working Group dealing with the issue,"- the statement reads.
