Giorgi Gakharia - Today I do not see a need to declare a state of emergency today

“We will have to further tighten measures, but today I do not see a need to declare a state of emergency. Yes, the question is relevant as several states have already declared the state of emergency.

But I want to pay attention to one thing - the countries, which declared the state of emergency, also explained what this state of emergency means, what measures are being taken. And if you look at what we have already done, you will see that we have not declared the state of emergency, but we have been taking the same measures for several weeks now. That is why we say that we follow specific challenges on a daily basis and we tighten these measures. I can sincerely tell you that we will have to further tighten measures, but today I do not see a need to declare a state of emergency. This need may come tomorrow”, - explained the Prime Minister of Georgia.

Giorgi Gakharia - If needed, commercial banks will restructure companies’ debts

“Yesterday, we had a meeting with the representatives of the banking sector and we decided that commercial banks will restructure loans of all companies if necessary. The banking sector will restructure their loans within the next three to four months. Only through this, we will leave 100 mln GEL in the tourism sector. In addition, together with the largest banks, we have decided that individuals, citizens of our country, will be exempted from the debt service obligation if necessary within three months. This is very important, both financially and socially”, - concluded the Head of the Government.

Commercial banks will postpone payments

TBC Bank, Bank of Georgia and Liberty Bank will accept postponed payment on loans for three months.
According to them, such decision has been made to prevent people gathering in bank branches and thus to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus.

The decision is made for all physical individuals, micro, small and medium size business and also for large business which are involved in tourism, the food industry or in an industry which is related to the gathering of many people.
