The rapid increase of cases may be related to the spread of the Delta strain - Tamar Gabunia

The increased rate of coronavirus cases and the number of deaths may be linked to the spread of the so-called Indian strain. Such a statement made today the Deputy Minister of Health after the meeting of the Interagency Coordination Council.

“The National Center for Disease Control has released a statement about the so-called Indian, Delta strain before too. Recently, 7 more cases have been confirmed, indicating that the strain is circulating in the country.

The estimated incidence of this strain is approximately 10 to 20%. It is also possible that the rapid increase of cases and the relatively serious course, in terms of increased mortality, may be related to the spread of the Delta strain”, - said Tamar Gabunia.
