The Chairman of the Georgian Dream responds to the statement made by the US Ambassador to Georgia, Kelly Degnan, regarding the constitutional amendments.

“I am a specialist directly in this field, which is called constitutional law, and I can tell you that the 2% threshold - 2% or lower is in force only in two EU member states. No tyranny is formed in any of these countries. I tell you this as an expert. Of course, Ms. Kelly [Degnan] is not an expert herself.

We have a system that will be launched in 2024, which is in full compliance with European best practices. I will repeat once again that in most of the EU member states, where the proportional electoral system is established, there is a 5% electoral threshold…

In general, as for this issue, we are, of course, ready to resume the discussion on the election threshold, if only this has its preconditions. The precondition is that all political parties sit in Parliament. We need continued evidence of this, that they want to change the agenda, and they want to make a positive contribution to the new agenda that needs to be established in Georgia”, - said Irakli Kobakhidze.
