I believe, our tomorrow is based on the constant improvement of the human rights protection standards and at this stage, we do not have right to be content, said the Speaker of Parliament in his speech at the Human Rights Forum.

He congratulated the attendees on Human Rights Day and affirmed unconditional respect to all human rights and freedoms.

“Each person, in aggregation, creates and builds a strong country. Tolerance was, is and will be the paramount value of our society. This fundamental value, inherited from our ancestors, shall be further enhanced, strengthening the national identity of Georgia. At the same time, it is particularly painful when simultaneously with speaking about our new generation reforms, the rights of our citizens residing in the occupied regions are grossly violated and they have to fight for a living. Let me once again appeal to the international community to actively cooperate to end this historical injustice.

The Parliament will keep the oversight on the regulation of the legal issues and their due enforcement and we are committed to in this process, cooperate with all parties concerned.

We did a lot, though the action plan envisaging the quantitative reforms of human rights standards is to be revised to make it more ambitious. It requires the active engagement of local NGOs and international organizations. Also, let me state that unfortunately, recently we encountered challenges and thus, we need to work hard for the progress.
