Ministry of Education decided to change the General Education Law to allow children who turn 6 before November 1 to register for the first grade in the 2023-2024 school year.

According to the agency, the decision was made in response to a number of citizen requests advocating for a change to legislative norm limiting the age at which kids can enroll in primary school.

With the passage of the bill, children will have the option of continuing to receive preschool education and education services by enrolling in the school readiness program or enrolling as 1st graders. Kids, born before November 1, will be offered an additional opportunity to register for first grade.
