Japan increased grain purchases from Russia by 5680%

In July 2023, Japan increased grain imports from Russia by 5679.4% compared to the same month last year. This follows from the updated trading data statistics Ministry of Finance of Japan. At the same time, Japan’s imports of LNG from Russia decreased by 53.6%, coal – by 72.9%.

Imports of fish and fish products in July fell by 35.3% compared to the same month a year earlier, imports of vegetables – by 30%. Japan did not import meat, meat products and fruits from Russia in July of this year.

Exports of cars from Japan to Russia in July increased by 84% year-on-year: in particular, exports of buses and trucks grew by 60.2%, while motorcycles and spare parts, on the contrary, fell by 30.7% and 44.4% respectively. The cumulative growth of 84% is due to the fact that since August 9, as part of the sanctions, Japan has banned the supply of gasoline and diesel cars with an engine capacity of more than 1.9 liters to Russia, as well as hybrid cars.
