The convening of Parliament was legitimate under Article 38 of the Constitution, which mandates that legislature must convene within 10 days following the publication of the electoral summary report. Such a statement made the Public Defender of Georgia.
“All other articles, other arrangements, including the constitutional lawsuit [filed by the cPresident Salome Zourabichvili last week against the constitutionality of the elections], cannot be superior to the Constitutional provision that Parliament convene no later than 10 days. What occurred was entirely legitimate.
I would like to emphasize that neither regulations nor any other legal documents hold higher hierarchical importance than the Constitution. Anything else is a matter for discussion.
The Constitutional Court will consider the lawsuit and reach a decision. However, that will not affect the legitimacy of the convening”, - said Levan Ioseliani.
