EU must clearly state whose side we are on, sanctions may be the answer - Sergey Lagodinsky

Sanctions can be the answer, said the European Parliamentarian Sergey Lagodinsky [Germany] after the meeting with the President of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili.

“We, as the European Union, must clearly state whose side we are on, and here we are on the side of the Georgian people, the people who come out on the streets, and that is why we are here. If there is a need, and we think there is a need for some targeted sanctions, then the EU or individual countries should impose sanctions. For example, against those who participate in suppressing the free and democratic voice of the Georgian people.

Ask me if sanctions could be the answer? may be. We see this in many other countries, we have a whole regime of sanctions against human rights violators, and if we are sure that we are at this stage in Georgia as well, then a similar regime can be put into effect”, - said Sergey Lagodinsky.
