Parliament endorsing amendments to Rules of Procedure

During a plenary session, Parliament reviewed and adopted, under an expedited procedure and in its third reading, the draft law on amendments to the Rules of Procedure of the Parliament of Georgia. The draft was presented by the Chair of the Rules and Procedural Issues Committee, David Matikashvili.

According to the proposed amendments, the Parliamentary Bureau, based on the recommendation of the Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee, will approve the leaders and members of permanent parliamentary delegations, as well as friendship groups.

Additionally, instead of the bureau of MPs elected under the majoritarian system, the corresponding delegate"s bureau, defined by the Election Code of Georgia, will operate.

The presenter explained that after the first reading, an additional provision was included in the draft. This provision states that if a delegate loses their mandate as MP prematurely, their replacement will be selected from among the members of the relevant faction established by the political party that nominated the delegate.

Another draft amendment to the Rules of Procedure of the Parliament of Georgia was also reviewed and supported during the session. This draft allows the formation of political groups within the current convocation of Parliament.

“If at least 7 MPs from a parliamentary list decide to form a political group, they will have the opportunity to do so”, - said MP Guram Macharashvili, one of the initiators.
