The President of Georgia has extended his congratulations to the Georgian Orthodox Church and the nation on the anniversary of the restoration of Autocephaly.
"On March 25, 1917, an emergency meeting of the Georgian clergy restored the Autocephaly of the Georgian Apostolic Orthodox Church.
This crucial step was essential in the struggle to preserve our national identity and sovereignty. Our greatest patriots - both secular and religious - fought to restore historical justice, thereby reinforcing our statehood.
The World Patriarchate formally acknowledged the Autocephaly of the Georgian Apostolic Orthodox Church in 1990 through the efforts of His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, to whom I am profoundly grateful. The Church stands as a pillar of social life, spiritual strength, and national unity.
Congratulations on this historic day. I wish you peace and spiritual fortitude. May God bless our Church and homeland", - reads the statement of Mikheil Kavelashvili.
