The Day of Restoration of Autocephaly of the Georgian Orthodox Church reminds us once again that our spiritual values, historical heritage, and state thinking are inseparable. Such a statement released today the Prime Minister of Georgia.

"On March 25, 1917, the Autocephaly of the Georgian Orthodox Church was restored. This momentous event symbolizes the revival of our statehood and spiritual values.

The Church regained its freedom through the immense efforts of patriotic figures like Ilia Chavchavadze, Dimitri Kipiani, Ekvtime Takaishvili, and many others. This became the cornerstone of unity between clergy and laity and the struggle for Georgia`s independence.

It should be mentioned that the official international recognition of our autocephaly only occurred in 1990, thanks to the extraordinary personal efforts and unparalleled authority of His Holiness and Beatitude, Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II. Thus, historical justice was ultimately restored, and the Georgian Church secured its rightful place among the world`s independent and equal Orthodox churches.
