Members of the European Parliament respond to developments around Rustavi 2. According to them, one of the main conditions of the EU is the freedom of the media and harassment of journalists is unacceptable.
"Media independence is one of the priorities for the EU. We need to know how and under what conditions these decisions were taken which is normal and necessary for a democratic legal system. We hope there will be a plurality. Pressure on independent journalists, who do not follow the instructions of the government, is unacceptable, "- said Elmar Brok,the Chairman of the European Parliament"s Foreign Affairs Committee .
Members of the European Parliament also said that if Georgia wanted to become a member of European family, media freedom and pluralism of the media should be inviolable. They said Georgia was a successful example and they do not want to see its decline.
"Georgia is an important country for us. We hope that it will maintain this course - will retain the fundamental values of media pluralism and freedom of expression," - said a member of the Foreign Relations Committee Andrei Plenkovich.
