Zugdidi State University`s new academic building heralds future of knowledge, growth, and success, prepares competitive, highly qualified professionals - Prime Minister

The new academic building of Shota Meskhia Zugdidi State University is a fresh space for knowledge, development, and the future success of our students. Such a statement the Prime Minister of Georgia made at the inauguration ceremony of the new academic building of Shota Meskhia Zugdidi State University.

"I would like to extend my congratulations to everyone on this momentous day. Today marks the opening of a vital new infrastructure facility in Zugdidi. This is a modern educational building, a new space for learning, growth, and the future achievements of our students. This university plays a crucial role in spreading education within the region. It is the only higher education institution here that offers both university degrees and professional programmes. Both are equally vital for the education system and, specifically, for promoting education across this region", - said Irakli Kobakhidze.

Speaking about the special role of Shota Meskhia Zugdidi State University, he noted that it is the only higher education institution in the region offering both academic and vocational programs.

"The university prepares competitive, highly qualified professionals who are shaping the successful future of the region and will contribute significantly to the development of the country. Its location, near the occupation line, gives special national importance to the mission of the university. The fact that 40% of its students are either internally displaced persons from Abkhazia or young people living in villages adjacent to the dividing line underscores this uniqueness.

Just 18 years ago, the university had only 37 students. Today, it has 2000 - a clear indicator of rapid progress. This growth must continue. Academic advancement is equally visible: the institution has evolved into a fully-fledged university, building meaningful international partnerships with foreign universities.

This process has taken place with the constant support of the state, which in recent years has been reflected in numerous significant infrastructure projects. Today`s inauguration is yet another example of this support", - added Head of the Government.

Together with Givi Mikanadze, Minister of Education, Science and Youth, and representatives of the executive, legislative and local authorities, he toured the new academic building designed for 250 students. The facility includes state-of-the-art classrooms, laboratories, a continuing education center and a library for both students and lifelong learning program participants.

University Rector Teona Khupenia briefed the Prime Minister of Georgia on the completed works, highlighting that the new infrastructure fully meets modern educational standards.

The construction of the new academic building was financed by the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth, with a total investment of GEL 1 749 770.
