Sport is a universal language through which the world recognizes us and our champions are the best ambassadors of our country. It is our duty to create proper conditions for the development of this great potential and the inauguration of this new multifunctional sports complex serves precisely this purpose. Such a statement the Prime Minister of Georgia made at the inauguration ceremony of the multifunctional sports complex in Zugdidi.

He spoke about Samegrelo`s sporting traditions and the infrastructure projects being implemented nationwide by the Government of Georgia to promote sports development.

"In this modern, state-of-the-art facility of European standards, people of all ages - both professional athletes and amateurs - will be able to train, develop and achieve success. Large and small swimming pools meeting international water polo standards, fitness and weightlifting halls - all of this will motivate our youth to choose a healthy lifestyle, which is so important for our country. Sport must be accessible to everyone and in this respect it is especially important that this sports complex will also be accessible to people with disabilities.

Next to the complex, we will also build a basketball hall, a padel and tennis courts. We will begin the implementation of this project in the near future. All these steps serve the development of sports in our country and are yet another expression of our consistent policy. The development of both mass and high-performance sports and the proper recognition of our proud athletes, are among our top priorities. For this purpose, the budget for sports is steadily increasing and a separate ministry has been created to ensure the development of sports in the country.

Sports development means not only athletic achievements but also the promotion of a healthy lifestyle, healthier future generations and this will continue to be our priority. Today, Georgia is a small country with great sports achievements and Georgia must become a small country with the highest sports achievements, including in team sports. This requires a long-term vision and investments. Investment in sport is an investment in our future, in the health of our children and in our future champions. At the same time, the development of sports means new jobs and investment in the economy. Therefore, investing in sports carries multiple benefits for our country", - said Irakli Kobakhidze.

The complex is equipped with all the necessary units for training and competitions in swimming, water polo and weightlifting. The project cost amounted to almost 27 million GEL.
