Meetings are often held in the European Union precisely for the purpose of not inviting Georgia. On topics such as enlargement and connectivity, they do not invite Georgia, and one gets the impression that the meeting is organized solely to avoid inviting Georgia, so that this can create some sort of one-day agenda inside the country for people to talk about this topic. Such a statement made today the Vice Prime Minister / Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia.
"It is simply uninteresting. Much more important events are happening globally in the world, very significant processes are underway in our region. It is more important for us to follow them.
Discussing enlargement will only make sense if we have some influence on the enlargement process.
This has never been the case, and we see that certain approaches are changing. It is an interesting process to watch, though ultimately, how the enlargement process will shape up raises many questions. If Georgia is not involved in this process, that is also for the EU to decide. Enlargement cannot be one-sided - neither solely for the EU nor solely for Georgia. This is always a bilateral process; it implies the participation of both sides.
Consequently, any talk of enlargement without the country it concerns is simply meaningless. Let them decide for themselves how sensible and meaningful such discussions are when the party directly participating in this process does not take part", - said Maka Botchorishvili.
