In order to develop a 10-year forest management plan for the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region, forest inventory works have been completed across a total state forest area of 40,900 hectares.
Besik Amiranashvili, Head of the National Forestry Agency [NFA], reviewed the initial results of the fieldwork in the Tianeti municipality. Following the inventory, a draft forest management plan will be developed, which will outline all forestry management measures in detail, including sanitary logging, forest restoration activities, forest road construction and more: "As of today, we have fully completed inventory works on more than 50% of the total territory under the management of the Forestry Agency. In 2026, inventory works will be carried out across a total area of 238,000 hectares in Shida Kartli, Samtskhe-Javakheti, and Kvemo Kartli, allowing us to correctly and effectively plan forestry management activities for the next 10 years".
The state forest inventory in the Tianeti municipality was carried out under a grant agreement signed between the NFA and the German Society for International Cooperation, within the framework of the ECO Georgia project, which is funded by the Green Climate Fund.
