Starting from August, Georgian Railway customers will be able to travel from Tbilisi to Batumi in 4 hours - Tamar Ioseliani

Starting from August, Georgian Railway [GR] customers will be able to travel from Tbilisi to Batumi in 4 hours. Such a statement made today Tamar Ioseliani, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development.

As she noted, the reduction in travel time on this route was made possible as a result of large-scale infrastructure works carried out by GR.

"A large-scale and complex infrastructural modernization was implemented on the network; consequently, we were able to reduce travel time. This will naturally impact both the passenger flow, doubling it, as well as tourist destinations. Therefore, we will be able to offer visitors and our fellow citizens comfortable and safe travel from Tbilisi to Batumi", - said Tamar Ioseliani.

The completion of the modernization project on the mountain pass section also contributed to the reduction of railway travel time.

Additionally, the Deputy Minister emphasized that in parallel with the upgrading of infrastructure within the project, passenger stations were also rehabilitated: "It is important that GR is carrying out rehabilitation works at active stations, which is also significant for increasing the capacity of GR in this direction and serving our passengers more comfortably".
