"100-SPECIES GREENHOUSE REDEFINES HOSPITALITY ON GEORGIA’S COAST
Located in Shekvetili along Georgia`s Black Sea coast, Hecate`s Garden opens as a distinct culinary destination set within an expansive glasshouse. Inspired by ancient Colchian mythology and Medea - priestess of Hecate credited with planting the world’s first botanical garden - the venue pairs an active greenhouse with an immersive dining environment. Designed to be touched, tasted, and explored, the space features nearly 100 plant varieties that directly feed the venue’s kitchen and bar. Here, guests can stroll through living flora, select live plants to take home, and taste fresh ingredients harvested on site, weaving the interactive garden directly into the dining journey.
A COLLABORATION ON TACTILE BOTANICAL ARCHITECTURE
Realized within the ecosystem of - the country`s leader in live entertainment - Hecate’s Garden sets out to position Georgia`s ancient heritage on the global design stage. To bring this narrative into physical form, the project joined forces with Belgian design firm SEMPRE Design Build. Grounded in a material-first approach, Sempre paired natural materials, raw textures, and dense foliage to echo ancient Colchian visual forms. The interior atmosphere highlights organic shapes and artisanal details, establishing a continuous dialogue between the coastal landscape, contemporary interior design, and growing flora.
CONNECTING FLORA, CUSTOM CRAFTSMANSHIP, AND LOCAL GASTRONOMY
Considering that the mythical Kingdom of Colchis once spanned what is now western Georgia, Medea holds profound cultural resonance for the region. As a priestess of Hecate - the ancient goddess of nature, plants, thresholds, and transformation - Medea is mythologically celebrated as the cultivator of the world`s first botanical garden, from whose pioneering plant-healing traditions the word medicine itself is derived.
This botanical legacy comes alive within a special dedicated nook filled with botanical references, plant studies, and historical references.
The curated retail space presents custom teas, botanical candles, and specialized objects created specifically for the site.
Moving deeper into the greenhouse, mythology transforms into tangible design and modern craftsmanship. At the center stands a bespoke table adorned with individually hand-painted ceramic tiles, reinterpreting reconstructed ancient Colchian ornamental motifs through a contemporary lens. Here, surrounded by nearly 100 living plant species, guests can choose live botanical specimens to take home, extending the spatial experience beyond the site itself. Grounding the multi-sensory offering, the beverage program features regional wines from Guria, connecting the modern glasshouse to Georgia’s 8,000-year-old winemaking tradition and offering a fresh model for narrative-driven hospitality" - reads the article.
