Prosecutor’s Office has reduced the charges against a minor accused of premeditated murder based on newly discovered evidence

The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has reduced the charges against a minor accused of premeditated murder in the city of Rustavi based on newly discovered evidence.

The case concerns a murder committed on June 5, 2026, in a residential apartment in the city of Rustavi, during which a minor defendant killed a foreign citizen.

Law enforcement officers arrested the minor on the same day and charged him with Article 108 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (intentional murder), which provides for a sentence of 10 to 15 years in prison.

Based on the expert’s conclusions and other evidence received during the substantive consideration of the case in court, the prosecution reduced the charges against the minor and charged him under Article 113 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (murder committed beyond the scope of necessary repulsion), which provides for a sentence of one to three years in prison.

At the same time, the prosecutor’s office is petitioning the court to replace the imprisonment imposed on the defendant with a lighter preventive measure.
