Rustavi2 releases a special statement:
" What happened today concerns all of us. Therefore we decided to express our protest. None of us is secured that our private life will not become public tomorrow. They have realized their threats. Although already passed few hours after the release of a footage of politician"s private life , we know from the low enforcement bodies that the investigation has been launched and the footage was blocked.
So far, all the facts that caused public protest has not been investigated, therefore, we are not sure that those individuals , who released the video, will be punished. This is not the first case when the society requests law enforcement bodies to react rapidly.
The only response was dismissal of the Deputy Interior Minister, but even then t it was not adequate punishment and subsequent events have confirmed it. We would like to remind to authorities Vladimer Bedukadze, the author of the cruel footage from prison, who was fully discharged by the Prosecutor"s Office. Today he says that he is our colleague and even more, he has the status of Human Rights Defender.
We also recall that those government officials who are still in high positions and who also were organizers of public broadcasting of torture video. As for the accused of torture, the bases for their release remains unknown.
We still do not know at what stage is the investigation of illegal surveillance devices installed at Rustavi 2. We have no answer to the question, Why those people who may be directly involved in the installation of cameras are in high positions in governmental structures. What followed Nika Gvaramia"s statement that he was threaten with publishing footage of his personal life.
Remains unknown for the society who was behind illegal surveillance on our colleague Eka Mishveladze. This list is quite long, Manipulation with incriminating evidences and footages of personal life must end once and for all and it should not become a weapon of political blackmail.
Therefore, we appeal to the police to involve representatives of media and civil society in the investigation process. There shouldn"t be questions on one more scandalous case. We also request to release information on all well-known cases and punish all those responsible for recording and distributing this footages severely .
We condemn the actions of those media, which have contributed to spread this footage and suspend cooperation with them. From now on, we will no longer adhere to the information released by the news agency IPN, because the agency has ignored journalism ethics, as well as the principles of inviolability of private life.
We fully support all journalists and employees, who decided to leave the agency after this fact. As for the ongoing investigation - we think enough time has passed to have clearer information on the fact especially in the light of modern technologies if there is a will to make it. We call on the society to resist such shameful actions and not give an opportunity to anyone to implement their dirty plans. "
