Prolongation may cause irreparable harm to the Rustavi 2- NGOs on Turava`s request

NGOs consider unconstitutional judge Merab Turava`s requirement who according to the new law on  the Constitutional Court  requests  the consideration of Rustavi 2 suits  by  the plenum. The third sector is preparing to file a suit in the Court .

Non-governmental organizations claim that Turava`s initiative proves that the Constitutional Court Act was amended  in order to control  the Rustavi 2 and other high-profile cases .

"This law was adopted to have the possibility of doing it in the Constitutional Court. In all cases, the government has adopted this law to avoid the constitutional justice,  be it Rustavi2 case,  Gigi Ugulava case, or  cables case.  The law was passed for this  purpose, then a deal was struck with  the president  who did not veto  this part of the law , and the law  was  enforced . In these cases legal proceedings will be prolonged at least  for a few days  , "- said Giorgi  Mshvenieradze.

GYLA also talks about the reasons for adopting amendments to the Constitutional Court law.

"This legislative mechanism  gives  the possibility to one particular judge to prolong the procedure of taking decision  on  particular case. The prolongation of this may cause irreparable harm to the interests of Rustavi-2, because the Court of Appeals is now in the process of decision-making, "- said Giorgi Gotsiridze.
