NGOs accuse government of interfering in Constitutional Court activities

Non-governmental organizations believe that the authorities are inerfering in the Constitutional Court activity which harms the reputation of the court as an institution. The third sector think that the authorities have been trying in various ways to gain control of the Constitutional Court for several years .

The chairman of the NGO Democratic initiative, Giorgi Mshvenieridze said the new government by changes in legislation and political statement has been trying for 3-4 years to restrict and create problems for the work of the court.

Transparency International Georgia have questions about the investigation that the the Prosecutor`s Office started after Papuashvili`s statement and call on the investigative body to release more information..

TI Georgia analyst, Giorgi Beria, says that politicians are often involved in litigation which is incorrect.

"Often, it is clear that the authorities are distinguished by the harsh criticism and intervene in the proceedings and make mistakes," - says Beria.
