The Holy Synod deems unfortunate the agreement signed with Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
This is stated in the minutes of the meeting held by the Holy Synod. It was also stressed that Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region has always been and is under the jurisdiction of the Church, which is recognized by the World Orthodox Churches, including the Russian Orthodox Church.
The protocol adopted by the Synod emphasizes that the territories of Abkhazia and South Ossetia has always been Georgian.However, our government can not control it temporarily.
"It is highly regrettable and illegal that Russiain signed contracts with these provinces.The hope was expressed that real steps will be taken that will allow hundreds of thousands of refugees to return to their ancestral homes and tthe jurisdiction will be restored, "- says the protocol.
