Ordinary policemen will not be allowed to undertake Criminal prosecution of persons under 18 years

All criminal cases with minors’ participation in Georgia will soon be handled by police officers, investigators, prosecutors and judges specializing in juvenile offending.

Georgia’s Justice Ministry prepared the Juvenile Justice Code, which will see the country have a new institution of justice for the youth under age 18.

The Ministry believed this move would help Georgia’s justice system meet European standards and the requirements by the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Local and international experts were set to discuss the new Code tomorrow.
