Moscow is building a new road from Russia to Georgia, the Avarro-Kakheti highway, with maximum intensity. According to the Russian media, the project envisages the construction of 85-kilometer road, 25 bridges and 5 tunnels in the Dagestan mountains and will serve for getting from Russia to Georgia and the Black Sea. After the road is over, Russia will have access to the entrance to Georgia from Kareli.
The villages Saruso and Satskhendage are closest to the Georgian-Russian border. People see the danger in a new road.
Zurab Abashidze, the prime minister`s representative for relations with Russia, says that the Russian side has not applied Georgia with such a proposal and there are no works being done on the territory of Georgia.
Former defense minister, Dimitri Shashkini, says Russia is building this road for military purposes, using the same technology as in case of Armenia-Iran passes, and will use this route to shore troops and equipment in case of conflict in Iran.
The opposition calls on the authorities to analyze the threats and to provide active information to the international community. The ruling team`s authorities do not take criticism and explain that they are actively providing information to international partners about Russian threats.
