The legislative package on drug policy will be discussed at the conference convened by the Healthcare Committee today. Foreign experts will also present their opinion on this issue.

The initiators of the package say that the novelty aims to introduce a new drug policy, focusing on treatment, rehabilitation and prevention instead of repressive criminal mechanisms.

The opposition speaks about the need for liberalization of drug policy and calls on the ruling team to make changes in the accelerated manner.

"We have a repressive drug policy in the state, which is not oriented towards humanitarian aspect. Our government must take decisive steps as soon as possible to get close to the civilized standards of civilized world, "- said Kote Ioseliani, a member of the UNM.

The bill was prepared by the National Platform of Drug Policy. According to Gigi Tsereteli, member of "European Georgia", the law should be focused on prevention and assistance.
