Eva Gotsiridze, a member of the High Council of Justice, was nominated as a candidate for the Constitutional Court. Gotsiridze was officially presented by factions of the parliamentary majority at the yesterday`s bureau session.
In case of approval, Eva Gotsiridze will replace Lali Papiashvili, who has finished her term in the Constitutional Court.
The parliamentary majority characterizes Eva Gotsiridze as an objective, professional lawyer and links a negative campaign against her to the "National Movement".
"The questions were the result of the campaign initiated by the " National Movement ". Eva Gotsiridze is an objective, professional lawyer, known as such in the professional circles, and the team felt that she would do a very good job," -Mamuka Mdinaradze said.
"National Movement" states that Eka Gotsiridze is biased and lacks professionalism. The party says that the ruling team is trying to "accomodate" Eva Gotsiridze.
"Eva Gotsiridze"s candidacy has already been turned down by the Strasbourg Court due to her qualification, and the majority seems to simply accomodate this person in the agency , which has virtually lost its functions by last year"s legislative amendments thanks to this person," - Zaza Bibilashvili said.
The anti-constitutional statements of Eva Gotsiridze are recalled by the "European Georgia". Leaders of the party believe that Gotsiridze"s appointment as a judge will continue "degradation process" of the Constitutional Court.
