In connection with the Law on Broadcasting, Giorgi Margvelashvili sent motivated remarks to the Parliament on 2 part of the amendments. The President believes that if the budget-funded public broadcaster is entitled to broadcast commercial ads, it will reduce the private TV companies" revenues that will hit independent media. The second part of the motivated remarks concerns the procurement issue.
Although the positions in the ruling party on the bill on broadcasting are split , they pledged to mobilize 76 votes for overcomng the veto.
The veto is not likely to be supported by almost the entire staff of the sectoral committee. The ruling team sees the problem in the part of commercial advertising.
The parliamentary opposition claims that the President"s veto is correct and will be supported by them.
