Politicians and third sector requests to revoke amendments to the Law on Broadcasting and start investigation against Public Broadcaster

Representatives of non-parliamentary, parliamentary and non-governmental organizations demand to return the draft bill on broadcasting to the parliament.

Politicians together with the NGO sector have discussed the media environment, the interests of the government and have developed a joint statement that will be published later.

According to one of the leaders of United National Movement Khatia Dekanoidze, it is clear that the Public Broadcaster and the Public Broadcaster"s Board do not feel accountable to the Parliament of Georgia. Dekanoidze says that it is necessary to take effective steps to return the Public Broadcaster to people.

Tamar Kordzaia, political secretary of the "Republican Party" emphasizes the financial violations in the Public Broadcaster that have been revealed by the Audit Office. According to her, the enactment of the Law on Broadcasting will increase the risk of corruption in the Public Broadcaster.

Tamar Kekenadze, the Secretary-General of the Free Democrats, said that amendments to the Law on Broadcasting hinders other TV stations to operate. Kekenadze speaks about the need to investigate financial irregularities and restore the European Bureau.
