In the first half of the day the ropeway broke down in Gudauri. The ropeway suddenly stopped and began to reverse, after which baskets full of skiers crashed into each other.
Eyewitnesses recall that the braking system went out of order, and the the baskets started moving at a high speed back to the starting point of the station. The skiers saw with their own eyes how the iron base structure collided with a basket full of tourists. Within a few seconds, the station floor was filled with metal constructions.

11 people needed medical help as a result of the accident. They were taken to the center of emergency medicine at Gudauri. Aviation was called in Gudauri for help.

One part of the injured was transported to Tbilisi by helicopter, due to bad weather, the second flight was not fulfilled, so 4 people were transported by car.

One of the injured is frpm Sweden, two are Ukrainian and four are Russian citizens. The conditon of one citizen of Ukraine is very serious.

The cable is installed at the highest point in Gudauri. This skiing track is located at 3,276 meters above sea level and is only for professional skiers.

The technical examination of the track was held on December 22.
