Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the Northern Fleet, certain units of airborne forces and the Western Military District on full combat alert as part of snap checks. The next step is the inspection of Russian air force combat readiness.

From the morning the intensive training has started in the Barents Sea. Russian warships are being trained to eliminate simulated enemy submarines. The military are working out destruction tactics.

Unplanned exercises of the Russian Northern Fleet started yesterday and will last for five days.
