The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has extended the deadline for the defendants to make phone calls

In order to prevent the spread of coronavirus in the country and to maintain the social distance in the country, the Prosecutor"s Office of Georgia has extended the possibility of making phone calls for defendants in a penitentiary institution, who have been limited telephone communication by the prosecution, until May 22.

The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has already addressed the Ministry of Justice about this issue. The decision to allow the defendants to have a telephone conversation is due to the increased interest of the families about their condition and this decision will help to inform the families remotely. The imposition of this benefit will also reduce the additional visit of their lawyers to penitentiary institutions, which will help prevent the spread of the new coronavirus.
