The Prosecutor’s Office detained G.A., a former employee of Gldani N8 institution of the Penitentiary Department, on charges of degrading and inhuman treatment of prisoners.

According to the investigation, in 2010-2012, arrested person together with other staff members of the same facility, physically abused and humiliated prisoners. G.A. abused the prisoners verbally and physically. Violence against the same prisoners was systematic. As a result of G.A.’s actions, prisoners were illegally deprived of the right to walk, sleep and rest, etc. Besides, they did not have access to medical services.

The criminal case is being investigated under Article 1443, Part 2, Subparagraphs “a”, “b”, “d”, “e”, “z” of the Criminal Code of Georgia and the first part of Article 333. The measure provides for 4 to 6 years in prison.
