Georgia in U.S.State Department report on Human Trafficking

 

The US State Department has released its annual Trafficking in Persons report. According to the report, Georgia is among the countries, where , as the State Department estimates, the government does not meet yet the minimum standards in protectingt victims of trafficking, however, is taking important steps in this direction.

According to the new report, which covers developments in 2014, investigations, prosecutions and convictions in trafficking-related cases increased last year compared to 2013; it also notes increase in the number of anti-trafficking mobile units, but also says that “limited investigative capabilities hampered trafficking investigations.”
The report also deals with the recommendations for improving the nvestigation of specific cases, including trainings for law enforcement, attorney involvement in the investigation phase , using more proactive methods to identify victims and warn citizens about the dangers of trafficking.
