By extending the period, the European Commission insured itself so that they can fully consider the issue”, - said Shalva Papuashvili.

He also answered a question of whether the window of opportunity for European integration will be closed for Georgia after the war in Ukraine ends and the geopolitical situation changes.

“No - on the contrary. The main decision has already been made - this is the European perspective, which was given to all three countries. This is the main achievement that all three countries have.

We saw the EU ambassador’s statement that the candidate status has nothing to do with additional finances. He directly stated that receiving candidate status has nothing to do with additional finances. The people, who knew this and carried out disinformation campaign, wanted to cause hysteria in the society.

The constitutional amendments and the barrier are additional prerequisites for the opposition to be involved in the process. That is why we refuse, we do not bargain with Georgia’s European future. The EU tells us that there are 12 topics that our political elite must deal with as a priority today, and the part of the opposition that is proposing constitutional changes is bargaining, saying that they will engage in the implementation of these 12 topics if we give up something that the opposition demands - in this case the 2% barrier.

Since this is not a constituent part of the 12 points, the opposition should act seriously and get involved in the process!”, - added Shalva Papuashvili.
