EUMM Head of Mission, Ambassador Marek Szczygieł, hosted today a delegation of the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee (AFET), led by its Chair Mr David McAllister, in the village of Odzisi, near the occupation line.

Head of Mission first welcomed the visitors at Field Office Mtskheta to brief them on the latest security developments. The delegation then travelled to Odzisi, where they could observe ‘borderisation’ features with their own eyes. EUMM monitors explained how the ongoing ‘borderisation’ and the closure of the Odzisi crossing point for regular cross-ABL traffic have negatively affected the local populations’ freedom of movement.

Head of Mission emphasised that EUMM as co-facilitator of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism continues to advocate for the permanent reopening of the crossing points.
