Xenophobia, especially aggression, or physical confrontation against people of different origin is unacceptable - if [Irakli] Kobakhidze has specific facts, any citizen can apply to the Public Defender. Such a comment made Nino Lomjaria, Ombudsman of Georgia, while evaluating the statement of Georgian Dream Chairman about the xenophobic and chauvinistic campaign in Georgia.
“I really don’t have such evidence at the moment, I can’t confirm it. We have never shied away from making statements on unpopular topics, but we certainly have no evidence of xenophobia.
It is surprising to me why they are surprised that in this country, where more than 300,000 people are displaced and thousands of people died as a result of the Russian-Georgian conflicts, Georgian citizens have negative attitudes towards the Russian Government and citizens. It is very natural that citizens may not show love, but, of course, this should not turn into illegal forms, and if we see such a danger, we will react”, - said Nino Lomjaria.
