"Politicizing Rustavi 2 issue can not be evaded," - Nino Lomjaria

 

The legal dispute against Rustavi 2 will be monitored by NGOs. The Civil sector representatives say that the process looks less as a dispute between private owners and they see a political motives behind teh case.

"It is obvious that this is a part of the political process,especially in the light of approaching 2016 parliamentary elections, and the statements, which were made by high-ranking political officials against Rustavi 2 ," - said Tamar Kintsurashvili, the Board Chairman of the "Media Development Foundation" .

According to NGOs, the media and the functioning of free speech is under threat. Non-governmental organizations are urging the judicial system to have a transparent process.

"We can not evade that the ongoing processes are politicized and will have a political effect, Rustavi 2 is a top-rated TV channel, which is critical towards the government and the government has repeatedly expressed their claims to the channel`s editorial policy , "- explained Nino Lomjaria, the director of the " International Society for Fair Elections and Democracy ".
