The Georgian Young Lawyers Association [GYLA] demands cancellation of mid-term elections appointed by Central Election Commission [CEC] in Senaki.
“On August 14, 2022, GYLA applied to the Tbilisi City Court against the CEC’s decree of August 12, 2022, by which the election administration scheduled mid-term elections in the majority district 64.04 of Senaki municipality. GYLA demands the annulment of the decree.
The CEC indicated the early termination of the authority of the majority member of the Senaki municipal council, Vakhtang Tsurtsumia [United National Movement] as the motive for its decision.
The GYLA believes that the appointment of mid-term elections is not in compliance with the law, since the Senaki municipal council has not convened for more than 6 months, which is why there is an unconditional basis for terminating its powers and, accordingly, there are preconditions for the appointment of snap elections in the municipality”, - reads the statement of the organization.
