The Chairman of the Georgian Dream said the statement by the US Embassy that criticised the exclusion of the ISFED, from Parliamentary work on conditions for obtaining EU membership candidate status for Georgia was “shocking”.
Irakli Kobakhize was reacting to the Embassy statement on Friday [August, 19] that said “the exclusion of ISFED, one of Georgia’s most trusted and experienced election observation organisations, from the Parliamentary working group on election reforms directly contradicts the European Commission’s recommendation that Georgia ensure the involvement of civil society in decision-making processes at all levels”.
“We remember what role the PVT falsification played in the processes that took place after the parliamentary elections. This became one of the main excuses for the radical opposition to sabotage the Parliament. Fair Elections were then directly involved in the processes that were conducted by the radical opposition.
After that, we see them on the stage erected in front of the Parliament, from where they are voicing a political demand regarding the resignation of the Government and the formation of a technical government, that is, ISFED was presented to us as a direct participant in the revolutionary process.
When, after this complete lustration, the Embassy calls Fair Elections one of the most reliable organizations and expresses the desire for it to be involved in the work process, it is a surprise to us.
Members of our team have already proposed to ISFED to distance from its own demand for the resignation of the Government and the formation of a technical government. They did not do this for several days, which clearly shows their expressed political goal of participating in the revolutionary processes, after that it is impossible for Fair Elections to be involved in any work process”, - said GD official.
